Born and raised in Macon, and living in and around Athens for over 20 years, northeast Georgia is as much a part of me as my faith, family, and friends.
You deserve to know the people who want to represent you in Congress.
This is my story (so far).
Georgia Born
As a kid growing up in Macon, Georgia, I spent every home Georgia football game day watching the sun come up over beautiful, fog-blanketed farmland as my family rode up 83 and 441 to Athens to watch the Dawgs. Along the way, we’d stop in Monticello, Shady Dale, Madison, and Bishop, which all felt like an extension of home.
Grounded in Faith
I’d later fulfill my dream of earning my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, where I became one of the first female worship leaders at the UGA Wesley Foundation. Since then, I’ve provided consulting to the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and led ministry events and service projects for its yearly meeting in Athens. I've provided itinerant speaking and music ministry at churches all over District 10, including at Greensboro FUMC, Madison FUMC, Elberton FUMC, and Stark UMC in Jackson. I served on staff at Watkinsville First UMC for four years, leading a contemporary worship service and organizing community service projects, often in conjunction with the Oconee County Farmers’ Market.
A Lifetime of Volunteering
Led youth events at Rock Eagle in Eatonton and the FFA/FHA camp near Covington
Led dozens of school field trips for K-12 students
Supported Habitat for Humanity in multiple counties, both through financial giving and physical work
Organic Farming CSA projects in Oglethorpe and Oconee counties
Volunteer guitar teacher for the Athens Boys and Girls Club
Played music at the Athens Human Rights Festival and Georgia Climate Change Coalition rallies
Traveled all over northeast Georgia doing service projects
Adopted my dog, Nessie, from the Humane Society of Morgan County, and facilitated a second dog adoption for my parents from the same rescue
Survivor and Fighter
I have a national reputation of speaking truth to power and successfully fighting bureaucracy to advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who often experience the double burden of religious abuse in patriarchal churches. Before the Me Too and Church Too movements, under threat of excommunication, I successfully fought through the multi-level bureaucracy of the Presbyterian Church of America all the way to the floor of its General Assembly to hold the organization accountable for abuse. This resulted in the denomination forming an Ad Interim Committee on Abuse, Domestic Violence, and Sexual Assault, and appointing Rachael Denhollander as an advisor.
Finding Home
Being a Realtor in Athens has given me the opportunity to help introduce the 10th district to numerous families moving in from other places, and help others find their dream home. My real estate career has focused on helping first time buyers achieve homeownership.
